Certain Carlow University Websites and/or Online Services are intended to be used by or directed to individuals under the age of 13 years old (“Child” or “Children”). Carlow University is committed to protecting users of its Websites or Online Services intended for use by or directed to Children and fulfill its obligations under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) as set forth in this Notice.

This Notice applies only to Carlow University Websites and Online Services that are intended to be used by or directed to Children and supplements Carlow University’s Privacy Notice accordingly. 

Consent  

Use by a Child of Carlow University’s Websites and Online Services intended to be used by or directed to Children requires verifiable consent from a Child’s parent or guardian and acknowledgement of this Notice prior to use by the Child.   

Personal Data Collected

Carlow University collects the minimal amount of Personal Data necessary for Children to use Websites and Online Services intended to be used by or directed to them. Carlow University may collect first name, last name, mailing address, email address, phone number and date of birth.  Carlow University may also collect Personal Data that is not personally identifiable including school and grade information.   Carlow University collects a user’s IP address, uses cookies and/or similar technology, and stores a Child’s username and password when registering for an Online Service. 

Use of Personal Data

A Child’s Personal Data is retained for as long as necessary to provide the Child with the use of Websites or Online Services requested or as necessary for business or legal obligations. 

A Child’s Personal Data may be used to provide services requested, improve services and user experience, to allow for communication with the Child as necessary, for analytical purposes and as required to fulfill business and legal obligations.  In some circumstances, a Child may publicly post their information, including Personal Data.  Consent from a parent or guardian is required before posting the Child’s information publicly.  

Carlow University does not sell or rent a Child’s Personal Data. Carlow University may disclose a Child’s Personal Data to third parties to allow for the use of the third parties’ services, products or support, for public safety purposes, to protect the rights and safety of others, and as required for legal purposes. 

If Carlow University learns that it received Personal Data of a Child without a parent or guardian’s verified consent, Carlow University will use that information only to inform the Child or the Child’s parent or guardian that the Child cannot use the Websites or Online Services. 

Rights of Parent or Guardian

Upon providing proper identification, a parent or guardian has the right to access and review a Child’s Personal Data that is maintained by Carlow University, the right to request that Carlow University update or delete a Child’s Personal Data and the right to refuse to allow Carlow University from collecting or using a Child’s Personal Data.
