PITTSBURGH, PA — Carlow University is proud to announce that Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis will serve as the keynote speaker for its 2025 Commencement ceremony, to be held on Saturday, May 10, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.
Davis, who made history as the first Black lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania and the youngest serving lieutenant governor in the country, will address students from Carlow’s undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs during the University’s 95th Commencement exercises.
Born and raised in McKeesport, Lt. Governor Davis has built a career grounded in public service and community engagement. He previously represented the Mon Valley in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives before assuming statewide office in January 2023. His journey from local activism to a leadership role in state government reflects a commitment to expanding opportunity and improving quality of life for families across the Commonwealth.
“Lieutenant Governor Davis is a powerful example of leadership that is both grounded and forward-looking,” said Dr. Kathy W. Humphrey, President of Carlow University. “His story resonates deeply with our students, many of whom come from Western Pennsylvania and are preparing to step into meaningful roles in their communities and professions. We are honored to welcome him to Carlow for this milestone moment.”
Throughout his career, Davis has focused on supporting working families, making our communities safer and creating ladders of opportunity for every Pennsylvanian. His address is expected to speak to the values of perseverance, purpose, and service—core themes for Carlow’s Class of 2025.
