Carlow’s 100 Percent Pass Rate Is the Highest in Western Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, Pa. – With a batting average that Babe Ruth would envy, Carlow University’s 2017-2018 BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) graduates were a perfect 49-for-49 in passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).

This is the second year in a row that Carlow’s nursing graduates have achieved a 100 percent pass rate, the highest pass rate in western Pennsylvania, and marks the fifth year in a row that Carlow has led the schools in our region in pass rate on NCLEX, the exam that allows graduates from pre-licensure nursing programs to be licensed to practice nursing.

“At Carlow University, it is all about facilitating the success of our student. Our students and our faculty worked collaboratively to ensure this level of success,” said Lynn George, PhD, RN, CNE, Carlow’s Dean of the College of Health and Wellness.  “We are proud of this extraordinary outcome that demonstrates the quality of our nursing program.”

One reason for these outstanding results is the mentoring relationships that develop between faculty and students.

“Carlow’s small class sizes allow our students to develop a real rapport with the faculty,” said Janice Nash, DNP, associate professor and the BSN program director.  “We actually have a formal faculty-student mentoring program to prepare students for taking the NCLEX.  It’s an honor to work with such dedicated faculty and high achieving students.”

The quality of students in the nursing program also plays a role in the successful outcomes on the exams.

“Our students have a dedication to educational excellence, hard work, and ethical standards that sets them apart,” said Maria Flavin, DNP, associate professor and the coordinator for the NCLEX-RN course for senior level undergraduate nursing students. “They have become compassionate, responsible leaders in today’s health care community in Western Pennsylvania and beyond.”

The NCLEX exams are developed and owned by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc.  All boards of nursing in states and territories of the United States require candidates to pass the NCLEX so they can be licensed as registered nurses.
