Carlow University Lifts Up World Voice Day

April 13 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Celebrate the importance of the human voice by enjoying a live concert headlined by an Emmy winner, Recording Academy member, and Guinness World Book of Record holder for Freestyle Rap 2023 Musician of the Year Harvey “Frzy” Daniels, and joined by Guinness World Book of Record holder for Youngest Opera Singer and America’s Got Talent finalist Victory Brinker, and local singer-songwriter Elliana Koulouris. Learn how to prevent and treat voice problems commonly experienced by teachers, the aged voice, and discover the intricate relationship between your voice and emotions in this interactive afternoon of lectures, live demonstrations, and experiential “how-to” learning ending in a live concert hosted by Jackie Gartner-Schmidt, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, ASHA Fellow, TEDx Speaker. Sound like you want to be heard!

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Carlow University Speech-Language Pathology Department and Carlow’s No-Cost Speech-Language Pathology Clinic.

About Frzy

Harvey “Frzy” Daniels is a 2018 regional Emmy Award winner for his collaboration with WQED on his hip-hop version of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” and on November 1, 2023 launched his second and third albums titled Popularity and Success. Frzy is a member of the Recording Academy (which bestows the annual Grammy Awards) and is a Governor of the Board for the Philadelphia Chapter of the Recording Academy. The City of Pittsburgh was inspired to officially declare January 11, 2018, as “Frzy Day.” Since then, Frzy has become a 2020 Guinness World Record holder for longest freestyle rap at 31 hours, the Smiley Face Cookie at Eat ‘N Park, and has had a mural created in his likeness by famous muralist, Jeremy Raymer. Frzy also serves on the Board of Directors of The Lindsay Theater, all this while being the face of Steve Madden’s “Self Made” Campaign. He has helped to raise more than one million dollars for charities and this year helped to increase diversity and inclusion awareness via the successful “Books to Bars” campaign with the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. He collaborated on a historic one-night concert with the Pittsburgh Symphony at Heinz Hall on November 8, 2023, which is the world premiere of an orchestration of the nationally known rapper’s new album, Success.

About Victory

Victory Brinker is an internationally recognized classical singer, best known as the Guinness World Record’s Youngest Opera Singer, and America’s Got Talent Finalist and first ever Group Golden Buzzer winner. Just turned 12yrs old, Victory enjoys singing multiple genres, but especially loves the challenge of opera, singing in 8 languages with a 4 octave range. Her most notable national performances have been at the famous Carnegie Hall and Apollo Theater, as well as on NBC’s Little Big Shots, Dr. Phil, CBS Mornings, Nickelodeon, CNN, Wonderama, and TEDx.  She is also an actress and has appeared in film, opera and stage productions. Victory calls Latrobe, Pa home with her parents and ten siblings. When not performing, she is an activist for the homeless and enjoys piano, skating, and gardening.

 

 

About Elliana

Elliana Koulouris is a 17-year-old singer/songwriter from the Pittsburgh area. She has been writing songs since the age of 12. She plays piano, guitar, and ukulele. Elliana likes to write about her thoughts in hopes that others will be able to relate to her lyrics and enjoy her melodies. Elliana has recently released her first EP, White Dirty Shoes, which is available on all streaming platforms, and is now in the process of recording her latest originals. She also participated and recorded with the 2022 WYEP Reimagination Project. She enjoys playing live shows in and around the Pittsburgh area.

About Jackie

Jackie Gartner-Schmidt, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, ASHA-Fellow is an Associate Professor of Carlow University in the Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program, College of Health and Wellness, in Pittsburgh, PA. Before her position with Carlow University, she was the co-director of the University of Pittsburgh Voice Center and director of the Speech-Language Pathology-Voice Division at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for 20 years. Dr. Gartner-Schmidt’s 25-year clinical and research focus specializes in assessing and treating patients with voice and upper airway disorders. Dr. Gartner-Schmidt has over a decade of NIH-funded clinical research experience as a co-investigator focusing on the development and efficacy of different voice therapy programs and has developed and validated seven Patient Reported Outcome Measures. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers, multiple book chapters, and online courses (MedBridge ®), and presented over 500 lectures nationally and internationally. She is also a TEDx Speaker ®. Since 2013, Dr. Gartner-Schmidt has also owned Voice Now, LLC dedicated to training speakers to develop, design, and deliver presentations more effectively.
