“Are You Safe? Helping Domestic Violence Victims Become Survivors” Is Title of the Talk

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Carlow University will host Woodrow Wilson Scholar and Fortune 25 executive Dede Bartlett on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. for a discussion of domestic violence prevention titled “Are You Safe? Helping Domestic Violence Victims Become Survivors.”

The event, which is co-sponsored by Mercy Behavioral Health, will be held in the Kresge Room, located on the fifth floor of Carlow’s University Commons from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so please register at www.carlow.edu/DomesticViolenceRSVP.

Bartlett is a former Fortune 25 executive, a Director of the American University of Central Asia Foundation and the Corporate Alliance to End Partner Violence. As Vice President of Corporate Affairs Programs at Altria Group, she developed the company’s award-winning domestic violence prevention programs. She has been honored for her work in helping victims of domestic violence by the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Lifetime Television, The National Center for Victims of Crime, and the National Domestic Violence Hotline. She has been invited to many college campuses to speak on a variety of topics including, tips to navigate any workplace, how to survive career catastrophes, the power of networking and women and corporate leadership.

During her visit to Carlow, Bartlett will be the Executive in Residence for Carlow’s master of business administration (MBA) program, lecture during a number of undergraduate and graduate classes, and lead three public events.

In addition to the domestic violence prevention discussion, she will also lead free, public events on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.  Monday’s talk is titled “Women and Leadership,” is co-sponsored with local, top Pittsburgh accounting firm, Schneider Downs, and will include a panel discussion with five top women executives.  It takes place in the Kresge Room at 6 p.m.  Tuesday’s talk is titled “Ways to Empower Yourself for the Workplace,” and will include discussion of the pay gap between men and women in corporate America, as well as ways to further a career.  This event is co-sponsored by the YWCA of Pittsburgh, and will take place at 6 p.m. in Room 107, of the A.J. Palumbo Hall of Science and Technology, located on the corner of Fifth and Craft avenues on the Carlow campus. For more information about these events, go to www.carlow.edu.
