Dean to students: Oakland area experiencing spike in COVID cases

University Communication to Students

Dear Students,

This week has seen a steady increase of COVID-19 positive cases and hospitalizations in Allegheny County. In
particular, the Oakland area has emerged with a concentration of positive cases in the University
of Pittsburgh residence halls, leaving officials concerned. Therefore, it is important for us to use preventative
measures for the common good.

New This Week:

Academic Calendar: Easter Recess

In observance of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter weekend, day classes will not be held Thursday through
Monday, resuming Tuesday. CAP IV and Graduate classes will not be held Thursday and Friday, resuming on Monday.
Please review each course syllabus and consult your faculty for details.

Continue Preventative Measures

Recognizing the increase of COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County and the state of Pennsylvania, the CDC has issued a
renewed call emphasizing the utmost importance of preventative measures that include always wearing
a mask, proper social distancing, washing hands frequently, and cleaning common spaces before and after use. Our
commitment to the common good is critical to our individual and community safety.

Testing Available

If you are traveling, the State of Pennsylvania recommends that you be tested upon return. Carlow University will
continue testing athletes and residence hall students. All students who may be traveling this weekend may be tested
on campus. You may access available times here, Please note testing is
for asymptomatic individuals only.
If symptomatic, hold in place and consult Health Services
(412-578-6087) or your primary care provider.

Vaccine Distribution on Campus

I am pleased to share that the State of Pennsylvania has updated vaccine eligibility beginning next week. You can
find full details here. Therefore, the
University will begin as early as next week offering additional vaccine clinics for those qualifying individuals who
desire to receive the vaccine. Full details will be communicated when finalized early next week.

Reminders:

Social Gatherings

The Oakland area has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases, attributed to recent social gatherings. As a reminder, students
are expected to avoid social events or gatherings that do not permit proper social distancing and exceed Allegheny
County Health Guidelines. Students choosing to attend off campus events, especially large social gatherings, will be
subject to conduct review under this policy if required protective guidelines are not followed.

Isadora “Student 2 Student Discussion”

I encourage you to familiarize yourself with and utilize Carlow’s Isadora intranet on a daily basis. There you will
find essential student-related information as well as a “Student 2 Student Discussion Board” located at the bottom
right of the interface. This tool for safe, effective communicating can be used to reach out to your peers on topics
such as study groups, ideas or tips relative to your Carlow University experience, fundraisers, etc.

Isadora Intranet can be access in one of two ways:

Directly via portal-prod.ec.carlow.edu

Log in to Carlow’s public-facing website at www.carlow.edu. Link in to “Login”
at the top right corner of the homescreen. This will take you directly to Isadora Intranet.

Take Care of Each Other

Please take care to look out for each other as the semester progresses. High stress, long hours, and final projects
can take a toll on mental health any year, let alone in this year of the pandemic. If you become concerned about
yourself or others, please submit
a report
and let the Care team know about needs, questions, or concerns. We will contact you to extend help.

Have a blessed and restful Easter Weekend.

Sincerely,

Timothy P. Phillips, Ph.D.
Vice President of Student Affairs & Dean of Students
