Celtic Celebration Gives Accepted Students a Chance to Experience Carlow University

A little bit of St. Patrick’s Day extended into the following weekend for high school seniors who attended Carlow University’s Celtic Celebration on Saturday, March 23, as they were greeted with Irish dancers before being welcomed by current students, alumni, faculty, and others.

“The Celtic Celebration is an event for high school seniors who have applied and been accepted to the university,” said Mollie Cecere, MBA, vice president, Enrollment Management and Corporate Partnerships. “Many of the students have already committed to Carlow, but others are still making their final decision.”

To help them make that decision, Carlow hosted the students and their parents or guests to visit the Oakland campus and celebrate the school’s Irish and Mercy heritage as well as, among other things, tour the grounds, hear faculty talk about their academic disciplines, and root for the Celtics during a men’s volleyball game in St. Joseph Hall.

Students and families could also take advantage of this time to meet with their admissions counselor, speak one-on-one with financial aid professionals, and update their FAFSA application. There was also a Resource Fair in the afternoon with more than 20 different organizations, activities, or services participating to help the students and their families get a better understanding of campus life.

At the end of the day, while students were meeting and socializing with each other and current Carlow students in Tiernan Dining Hall, parents and guests were welcomed at a dessert reception hosted by Carlow University’s President Kathy W. Humphrey, PhD.

“My message to them was that Carlow University provides a transformative education through our Mercy heritage that prepares students to become career-ready, ethical leaders,” said Dr. Humphrey. “Their students will find a university community that is ready to embrace them, and they will find an environment that they can flourish in.”
