Articulation Agreement Develops Pathway for Students to Receive 6 College Credits
Pittsburgh, Pa. –Carlow University and Partner4Work have entered into an articulation agreement that will enable young adults, ages 16-24, to earn college credits that they can apply to an undergraduate major at Carlow.
“The purpose of this partnership is to develop a pathway for completers of P4W’s Professional Certificate in Information Technology (IT) Support to receive six general elective credits to begin an undergraduate program at Carlow,” said Rachael Afolabi Royes, EdD, executive director of Carlow’s Hub for Workforce Development and Digital Learning Innovation. “This partnership benefits the students by offering credit based on previously learned knowledge and skills, and benefits Carlow with a potential stream of undergraduate students.”
On the evening of December 5, 25 graduates of Partner4Work’s program came to Carlow University for a reception in their honor and to learn more about the university and the opportunities it can provide to build on their current skill set and connect them to future careers that will benefit them and, ultimately, the western Pennsylvania region.
“The College of Leadership and Social Change at Carlow University is delighted to collaborate with Partner4Work on this opportunity for students,” said Stephanie Wilsey, PhD, interim dean of the College of Leadership and Social Change. “We’ve identified academic majors that – when paired with strong IT training – make students very marketable to employers.”
Students who elect to attend Carlow can apply the six credits in any of the following academic programs:
• Accounting
• Business Management
• Communication and Media
• Corporate Communication
• Human Resource Management
• Political Science
• Psychology.
Partner4Work is the workforce development organization that connects funding, expertise, and opportunities for employers, job seekers, agencies, and policy makers to develop a thriving workforce in the Pittsburgh area. The digital skills program is part of Partner4Work’s ongoing efforts to expand the talent pool for tech jobs in the Pittsburgh area.
As a Google.org nonprofit grantee, Partner4Work is providing access to 100 scholarships to train young adults with the skills needed to begin an IT career. Partner4Work is partnering with Auberle and PHASE 4 Learning Center to deliver the program – in which participants receive a stipend, support, and a computer – along with the training. Google will confer an IT Support Professional Certificate to those who successfully complete the program.
