Four Alumni Receive University’s Highest Honor on Friday, May 13, 2016

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Carlow University has named four distinguished alumni as its 2016 Carlow Laureates, the university’s most prestigious alumni award.  The Laureates will be honored during a special luncheon at Rodef Shalom Congregation on Friday, May 13, 2016, beginning at noon.

“Carlow Laureates are alumni whose work, thought, and action demonstrate the highest standards of professional accomplishment and leadership, whether it is in their chosen disciple, in academics or through community service,” said Suzanne K. Mellon, PhD, president of Carlow University. “Recipients of this award are lasting tributes to their own professional excellence, the transformational education they received at Carlow, and the dynamic environment which helped to fuel their ambitions and their desire to make a difference in the best ways they can.”

The 2016 Carlow Laureates are:

Amie Downs, JD, the Communications Director for Allegheny County, who earned her bachelor’s degree in communication and writing in 1994.

Anne DeNardo McGowan, JD, a partner at Stewart, Green, and McGowan in Carmel, Calif., who earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1960.

Shawn McGill, MSW, the owner of Shawn McGill Consulting, LLC, located on Butler Street in Lawrenceville, who earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology with counseling certification in 1998.

Anne Macdonald Peniston, RN, MSN, FNP, the Nutrition Division Chief of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Washington, DC, who earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1981.
