Carlow Ranked 69th Out of More Than 1,200 Colleges Nationwide

Pittsburgh,Pa. – A recent survey of more than 1,200 colleges ranks Carlow University 69th in the nation in terms of helping its students improve their earnings and attain quality employment after graduation. Carlow is one of seven schools in Pennsylvania, and the only regional institution, listed in the top 100.

Educate ToCareer’s (ETC) newly released CollegeRankings Index ranked four-year colleges and universities with more than 1,000 students, analyzing which universities did the best job of preparing students to find well-paying jobs in their fields after graduation.

“For 85 years, Carlow has been at the forefront of preparing career-ready leaders, and providing students access to an education that they might not have otherwise,”said Suzanne Mellon, PhD, President of Carlow University. “The University’s ranking in the top 6 percent of institutions in the nation sends a strong message about the economic value of investing in a degree from Carlow. It is also a testament to the dedication of our faculty and staff to ensure the University’s commitment to provide our students with a transformational education.”

For its rankings, ETC — a nonprofit organization based in California that provides outcome-focused college-planning tools for high school students and their parents — considered the academic profile of students when they enter college, the total costs related to attendance, and their success upon entering the labor market and measured each school’s ability to improve the employability and earnings power of their students.

According to its website, ETC compiled information from 55 sources from various government agencies and data including school, major, occupation, salary, percentage of graduates employed within their field of study, number of years to graduation, net tuition and loan default rates.

Last fall, Carlow was listed in the top 20 private colleges and the top 100 overall in WashingtonMonthly’s ranking of more than 1,500 colleges that provide the“best bang for the buck.” Carlow was the only private college in Pennsylvania listed in the top 20 and one of only three institutions from Pennsylvania among the top 100. The closest Top20 ranked institution geographically was more than 370 miles away from Pittsburgh. WashingtonMonthly awards highest marks to colleges that are both effective and inexpensive. Of the 1,572 colleges and universities considered, only 349made the list. Schools were ranked according to three main criteria, including recruiting those with modest means, meeting a specific graduation rate threshold, and ability of graduates to earn enough in the workforce to pay back their student loans.
