First New Construction Since 1999 Makes Former Grace Library Building the Hub of Campus
Pittsburgh, Pa. – After a year’s intensive construction, Carlow University will dedicate its new University Commons building on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 3:30 p.m.
Alumni, benefactors, public and diocesan officials will gather with the Carlow community on the campus green for a brief ribbon cutting ceremony to formally open the first new construction on campus since the A.J. Palumbo Hall of Science and Technology opened on the corner of Fifth and Craft avenues in 1999.
After the ceremony, everyone will be able either to go on a guided tour or simply tour the building on their own. The news media is invited to cover the ribbon cutting and tour the building.
Construction began on the complete renovation of the 82,500 square foot University Commons – formerly known as Grace Library – in August 2014, and was completed prior to the start of classes in August.
The University Commons has been designed to be environmentally sustainable and has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) status through improvements to the quality of the site, reductions in water and energy consumption, use of materials that reduced the impact on the environment while providing a healthy and safe work environment for faculty and students.
University Commons integrates an array of faculty and student services that support student learning and collaboration, and is designed to be the hub of student activity on the Carlow University campus.
