The Police at Carlow University recently added anew member to their team. Welcome K-9 Officer Duke! This officer comes to Carlow from Indiana, Pennsylvania, and is a four-month-old German Shepard.
Partnered with Lt. Chris Fabec, Duke will be extensively trained in explosive detection and will be seen at campus related events. He will be trained as a single-purpose dog, and not trained for apprehension. He is believed to be the first K-9 Officer for Carlow University. He is full of energy and is currently in the socialization portion of his training.
Although Duke is a dog, he is still a tool for the Carlow Police Department. He may be actively engaged in a working mentality, so please ask his handler, Lt. Fabec, to engage prior to freely petting him.
Duke shared a little more about himself with us:
What is your favorite Carlow memory so far?
All the ladies of the West Wing giving me hugs and kisses.
Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?
My handler, so I could tell him what to do.
If you could be any animal, which would you be?
Clearly, a German Shepard! Just the adult version, because I am eager to start protecting Campus.
Who inspires you?
Rin Tin Tin.
If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?
Huntington, CA — they have the best dog beach!
What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?
I am really good at bringing smiles to people’s faces, and brightening their days!
What is your favorite quote?
“What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog.”
Do you have advice for the Carlow students?
Although I am very friendly, please ask before you try to touch me.
