Paraprofessionals working in Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) can earn a discounted two-year master’s in education from Carlow while continuing to work. Teacher’s aides, early child care providers, assistant teachers and educational assistants are eligible.

  • A 25% tuition discount is possible, with a 10% discount for all PPS employees along with 15% for participating paraprofessionals. With the discount, students pay $1,398 per course.
  • Fees are waived for textbooks, technology (iPads and cell phone keyboards), a parking pass and the first 800 copies at any on-campus copier.
  • The Robert Noyce STEM Scholarship covers the cost of tuition for secondary education certification in STEM.
  • The evening course format is eight weeks, primarily online.
  • The program can be completed in 12 to 18 months with test preparation support.
  • Programs start in January, March, summer, August or October.
  • Professional preparation includes mock interviews, portfolio development, training and workshops.

Students will learn computational thinking with special attention to Code.org, Common Sense Media, CREATE Lab robotic technology, restorative practices, youth mental health first aid and executive functioning. Carlow offers the program via a partnership with Pittsburgh Public Schools and its Para2Teacher initiative.
