Dr. Ingel worked in trauma, home care, and primary care and was a lead clinical nurse on a RO1 funded research team before moving into a full-time career in nursing education.
During her tenure as program director from 2016-2024, she led curriculum revision, student engagement experiences, served on University Senate and was co-chair of faculty assembly. She has been awarded federal funding from HRSA for the Nursing Faculty Loan Repayment grant which has awarded more than 60 students with tuition assistance, and she was coordinator for graduate assistants in nursing. Dr. Ingel teaches courses in evidence-based quality improvement, population and community health, nursing education and is the coordinator of the undergraduate health coach minor.
Dr. Ingel earned her MSN in Education and Leadership from Carlow University and her BSN and PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. She has been teaching since 2005 in the doctoral, MSN and undergraduate programs. She has investigated nurses and nurse practitioners counseling about physical activity in the primary care, home care and public health settings; she works with community partners on health literacy, received external funding to investigate workforce re-entry for those in early substance abuse recovery and is currently studying barriers to prenatal care in central Pennsylvania.
She is the advisor to the Graduate Student Government Association, was immediate past co-chair of Healthy Carlow, founder of the Carlow chapter of American Association of Men in Nursing of Southwestern PA, and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau. She has been an invited presenter at several conferences and events regarding health literacy, graduate assistant outcomes and recruiting cohorts of students to graduate programs.
She is an advocate for wellness, health promotion and resiliency. Her PhD is in Adulty Health and Wellness and nurses advocating for disease prevention in a variety of settings.
