Dr. Janice Nash, the Chair of the Undergraduate Department of Nursing at Carlow University. She earned a BSN from York College of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and a Doctorate of Nursing from Carlow University. Dr. Nash’s clinical practice experience spans over 20 years in a variety of acute care settings and healthcare systems in the Pittsburgh region with a focus on medical surgical nursing. She has extensive experience in nursing education, having taught at Carlow University for over 20 years. The pre-licensure BSN courses that Dr. Nash has taught range from first year nursing courses, fundamentals theory, evidence-based practice, legal, ethical and political issues and leadership into professional nursing. Additionally, she has worked with doctoral students on their scholarly projects and taught RN to BSN courses.
During her tenure at Carlow, Dr. Nash has taught all levels of students both theory and clinical courses and has worked extensively to help students succeed. In her role as the BSN Program Director, she had oversight for development of new programs including a 2nd Degree BSN program and a collaborative program with Saint Vincent college. Her leadership role in nursing education includes work in curriculum development, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, ongoing collaboration with faculty, university departments and local healthcare partners for quality improvement in the programs and students’ experiences.
Drawing on perspective that was gained from clinical work in many of the area hospitals, Janice is committed to fostering the development of skills needed by new graduates to transition to professional practice. Previously, Janice served as a facilitator in the Nurse Residency Program at Allegheny General and was on the Nurse Residency Advisory Board for UPMC. This work informed the development of a Evidence Based Capstone course that is part of the final semester in the Carlow program. Collaboration with other faculty, committee work and continuing education programs on teaching strategies with a focus on diversity and inclusion informs working with students as individuals. Promoting student success in the academic setting and career readiness are priority areas of interest.
