SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS

About one third of all FAFSA filers are selected for Verification by the federal processor. If your FAFSA is selected, the Financial Aid Office will notify you of the required documentation via email (new students via postal mail). The status of your financial aid request will remain "Incomplete" and no further action will be taken on your file until all requested documents are submitted. Disbursement of financial aid is contingent upon completion of verification. So in order to ensure that your aid is processed in a timely manner, please submit all requested documents as soon as possible.
RETURN OF TITLE IV FUNDS
According to federal regulations, the Financial Aid Office must recalculate Title IV (federal) financial aid eligibility for students who withdraw, drop out, are dismissed, or take a leave of absence prior to completing 60% of a payment period or term (usually a semester). When a student does not complete 60% of a payment period or term, the financial aid office must use the Federal Return of Title IV funds formula to recalculate the student’s eligibility for Title IV funds. The formula determines the percentage of earned aid as follows:
Percentage of payment period or term completed = the number of days completed up to the withdrawal date / the total number of days in the payment period or term.
*Any break of five days or more is not counted as part of the days in the term. This percentage is also the percentage of earned aid.
If a student earned less aid than was disbursed, the institution would be required to return a portion of the funds and the student would be required to return a portion of the funds. Keep in mind that when the school returns Title IV funds to the federal processor, the student may owe a balance to the institution.
INSTITUTIONAL FINANCIAL AID
Carlow Scholarships and Special Awards, awarded to students at the time of admission, and Need-Based Grant, awarded based on the results of the FAFSA, are available to students who qualify for a maximum of four academic years or eight semesters.
Carlow University recognizes that students and their families may have special circumstances which could affect their ability to contribute to college expenses, but which are not revealed on the FAFSA. For example, an income reduction, loss of one-time income, or high medical expenses. When applicable, a Special Conditions form can be submitted to the Financial Aid Office. Important: when financial aid is awarded based on a Special Conditions request that does not materialize, Special Conditions requests for subsequent years will not be considered.
