Routine, nonemergency health care is available to all Carlow students at the Health Services Office in Frances Warde Hall. Appointments with a registered nurse are free to all students.

Services offered:

  • Blood pressure screening
  • COVID-19 rapid testing
  • First aid
  • Over-the-counter drugs
  • Health education with resources and literature
  • Evaluation and referrals to health professionals
  • Weight and nutrition counseling

A physician from UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is on campus each Thursday afternoon. Appointments may be made and walk-ins accommodated as possible. A $10 fee is automatically billed to the student’s account.

If you have had a respiratory illness, you may return to work or class when you are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medications and if your symptoms are improving.  Limit close contact with others during illness and practice good hygiene by washing hands and covering coughs and sneezes.

Facial Coverings: Facial coverings both indoors and outdoors are optional. Masks are available at Dispatch and Health Services (Frances Warde Hall 4th floor).

Same day appointments may be available on a limited basis.

  1. Call +1 (412) 578-6474 to schedule an appointment; if no one answers, leave a message with your name and phone number, and someone will return your call as soon as possible.
  2. Email Health and Counseling Services to request a call to schedule (do not use email if in crisis).
  3. Once an appointment is scheduled, all required paperwork will be completed electronically.
  4. The provider will determine your needs and develop an appropriate treatment plan utilizing campus and/or community resources.

For privacy protection, do not provide any specific health information in a voice mail message. Unscheduled appointments and appointments that are more time-sensitive in nature are available on a first-come, first-served basis by calling +1 (412) 578-6474 and requesting to speak with the first available counselor. All unscheduled/ time-sensitive appointments will be scheduled for the first available appointment.

Carlow takes the confidentiality of medical and health records seriously. Confidentiality is mandated by law, and we cannot release any student medical information to parents of nonminor children unless the student gives permission for us to do so in writing. However, in case of a medical emergency where there is an issue of life or death, we will contact family immediately.
