University Communication to Faculty, Staff, Campus Laboratory School
Distributed: November 5, 2020
Dear Carlow University Community,
In the spirit of this Thanksgiving season, we express our sincere gratitude to the many hard-working, dedicated members of our community. Below are a few updates:
Commitment to the Common Good
Thank you to everyone for completing the mandatory COVID-19 training modules located on our website. We have achieved 100% participation and are grateful for your dedication to the health and well-being of every person. This commitment continues to be particularly poignant given the uptick in cases in our region, state, and country.
Faculty/staff travel
NEW: We recognize that during the Thanksgiving break members of the Carlow community may travel. The PA Department of Health recommends that individuals who travel to states with high instances of COVID-19 quarantine for 14 days. Although it is not mandatory, the University also recommends this course of action.
NEW: After travel to these areas, and prior to a return to campus, faculty and staff should contact their supervisor and Human Resources for coordination of a return to work, and remote work options will be encouraged when possible. A travel question is also being added to the University’s on-campus screening areas.
As a reminder, the University has cancelled all international travel for faculty, staff, and students until further notice. All non-essential domestic travel is also cancelled.
NEW: Due to the reduced volume on campus after the Thanksgiving Break, we will be shifting to a self-screening module for all students, faculty, and staff coming to campus. Look for a communication outlining the process in the near future.
Additionally, if you have not yet downloaded Pennsylvania’s state tracking app, COVID Alert PA, please do so today. It’s available on the Google Play Store or the Apple App store. And if you’re coming to campus, be sure to reference our screening schedule located on our website.
University Events
NEW: Since the semester began, the University has successfully pivoted into the virtual realm to support the safety of our community. Our first virtual commencement will be held Saturday, November 7, at 12:30 p.m. The pre-recorded link will be emailed to faculty, staff, and student inboxes at 12:15 p.m. on November 7, and the link also will be posted and remain on Carlow’s primary social media channels and website for future viewing at one’s convenience. Link in for details.
Departments and faculty have hosted 35 virtual events to the campus community, alumni, and public, and there are 22 events remaining through the end of the semester. Additionally, there have been 53 successful in-person, student-centered, events held on campus, with 16 remaining.
REMINDER: If you are planning an in-person event on campus, you must complete an event request form for approval. If you are planning a virtual event, we also suggest you complete the event request for it to appear on the event calendar (no approval necessary). Visit the intranet (myPortal), link into Carlow Services, and then Event Resources.
We’ll continue to send you periodic updates as needed. Stay healthy and be well.
Sincerely,
The COVID-19 Re-Entry and Resiliency Implementation Team
