Carlow University respects the privacy of Personal Data that is collected from Users of Carlow University’s Websites and Online Services, provided by or on behalf of Users of Carlow University’s Websites and Online Services, and/or stored by the University. This Privacy Notice applies to Personal Data collected and /or stored by Carlow University from its Websites and Online Services Users. By using Carlow University’s Websites and other Online Services and/or providing Personal Data for general use by Carlow University, Users consent to the collection, storage, and use of Personal Data as set forth in this Privacy Notice. 

Collection of Personal Data

Carlow University may collect Personal Information that identifies an Individual, including but not limited to and Individual’s name, email address, telephone number, social security number and home address.  Carlow University also collects Demographic Information, including zip code, date of birth, age, gender, interests, financial information, and preferences. Certain Web Browsing Data is automatically collected by using Carlow University’s Websites or Online Services such as IP addresses, browser time, access time and “cookies.” The specific Personal Data Carlow collects and stores on an Individual depends on the purpose of the information provided and Websites or Online Services used.  

Protecting Personal Data

Carlow University has implemented stringent standards to protect against accidental disclosure and unauthorized access of Personal Data.  Carlow University takes all best-practice precautions in protecting Personal Data including implementation and provisioning of firewalls, antivirus, and physical security. Carlow University encrypts any passwords submitted for the use of its Websites and Online Services. Users should maintain the confidentiality of their log-in and password information.

Using Personal Data

Carlow University collects, stores and processes Personal Data only to the extent it has a legal basis to do so and as is necessary for Carlow to exercise its legitimate interests, functions and responsibilities as a private, religious, non-profit institution of higher education.

Carlow University collects Personal Data to operate its Websites and Online Services, communicate with Users, improve the use of the Websites and Online Services, and measure and analyze demographics.       

Carlow University will not sell, license, transmit or disclose Personal Data unless disclosure is expressly authorized by the Individual, disclosure is necessary to enable Carlow University contractors or agents to perform certain functions for the University’s purpose or the disclosure is required by law.  Any disclosure by Carlow University will be consistent with applicable laws and regulations. Carlow University will require the recipient of the disclosure to protect the Personal Data and use the Personal Data only for the lawful purposes it was provided.

Cookies

Carlow University’s Websites and Online Services uses “cookies” or similar technology.  Cookies are text files automatically placed on a user’s computer by a web server to collect standard Internet log information and visitor behavior information.  A cookie is uniquely assigned to a user and can only be read by a web server that issued that cookie to that user.  A cookie is not a computer program, has no ability to read data on a computer, instruct a computer to perform any function or program, and does not deliver viruses to a computer.

Cookies are used to provide convenience to the user and improve your experience on Carlow University’s Websites. Users can set their bowser not to accept cookies.  However, in some cases, certain website features may not function as a result.

Changes to Notice

Carlow University reserves the right to change or modify this Privacy Notice from time to time.  Websites and Online Services Users are encouraged to review the Privacy Notice periodically. Continued use of Carlow University’s Websites and/or Online Services after any change or modifications will constitute acknowledgment of the modified Privacy Notice and consent to the same.

Third Party Websites

Carlow University’s Websites and/or Online Services may provide links to websites and services not owned, operated, or controlled by Carlow.  Carlow is not responsible for the privacy practices used by websites or services not owned, operated, or controlled by Carlow.

Child Privacy

Carlow University’s Websites and Online Services are not intended to be used by individuals who are under the age of 13 years old.   To the extent certain Websites or Online Services owned, operated or controlled by Carlow University are expressly intended to be used by individuals who are under the age of 13 years old, verifiable consent from a parent/guardian and acknowledgment of Carlow University’s Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act Notice is required before use.

California Minors: If you are a California Resident who is under the age of 18 and you are unable to remove the publicly-available content that you have submitted to use, you may have the right to request removal by contacting Carlow University at: privacy@carlow.edu and specifically identifying the information you want removed and providing Carlow University with the specific location of the information.  Carlow University is not required to remove any content or information that (1) law requires Carlow University or a third party to maintain; (2) was not posted by the User; (3) is anonymized to the extent the User cannot be identified; (4) the User did not follow instructions for seeking or requesting removal; or (5) the User received compensation or other considerations for providing the content or information. Carlow University meets its obligations under California law if the requested removed personal information or content is anonymized or rendered invisible to other Users or the public.
