April Butchki is the Program Director for Respiratory Therapy at Carlow. She obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has been a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist for the past 30 years and has spent over twenty years as an educator. Her interests, areas of teaching, and experience include pharmacology, mechanical ventilation, adult critical care, pulmonary diagnostics, and home care. April is an active member of the American Association for Respiratory Care, the National Board for Respiratory Care, and the Pennsylvania Society for Respiratory Care, where she sits on the Education Committee.
While at Carlow, April is not only devoted to training students to become respiratory therapists, but patient advocates by emphasizing the importance of well-being, rights, and needs of patients. This is instilled in students through both theoretical instruction and clinical practice, shaping them to become compassionate and effective health professionals. Interdisciplinary collaboration is highlighted to ensure that patient’s respiratory needs are addressed in the broader context of their care.
