Ireland is one of the most beautiful places on earth and just so happens to be Carlow University’s historic origins.

You’ll be whisked away to see some of the sights from where the Sisters of Mercy came from, namely Sister Catherine McAuley, get a taste of our world-renowned MFA program, enjoy the amazing cuisine of Ireland, enjoy a theater performance, and take a trip to the famous Guinness brewery.

It is a must-see trip!  A trip that incorporates all six senses, it’s a surefire way to enjoy the amazing country of Ireland!

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

  • A day of reflection at Mercy International Centre, the home built by Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy.
  • A visit to Carlow, Ireland including a tour of the “other” Carlow College and enjoy a conversation with president Father Conn O’Maoldhomhnaigh. We will also visit St. Leo’s Convent – from which the Sisters of Mercy departed for Pittsburgh in 1843. This day also includes a stop at the Avoca Handweavers Ireland’s founded in 1723 and featuring beautiful handwoven treasures.

  • An experience of the Carlow Master of Fine Arts program housed at the famous Trinity College in Dublin. This day will include the opportunity to engage with the MFA program, including interactions with some of Ireland’s most renowned writers.
  • A free day in Dublin

Cost: $3,000; included in the cost are accommodations June 11 – 16 at The Mont Hotel in central Dublin (Breakfast included), opening and closing dinners, private bus transportation to Avoca and Carlow, and box lunches to enjoy along the way.
