Carlow University launches their Carlow Summer College program offering courses in the Ed’s, Med’s, and Tech fields connecting high school students to future educational and career opportunities. Participate in a 6-week online course led by Carlow faculty following a 3-day, 2-night residency program where you’ll be immersed in class sessions and meetings with industry connections.

Courses run June 23 – August 2 and are open to students enrolled in high school for the 24-25 academic year.

All-inclusive fee of $499 (includes tuition for 3 credit course and housing, meals, and local transportation for residency program) 

Program Structure

  • 3-day, 2-night residency with in-person class sessions 
  • Class sessions include presentations, workshops, and local Pittsburgh industry visits

Eligibility

  • One course per student
  • You must be a student enrolled in high school for the 24-25 school year
  • You must have at least a 3.0 high school GPA to register. High school transcripts may be requested.
  • Mandatory participation in 3-day, 2-night residency program
  • Students must have access to computer and internet services

Residency Program Details

  • Student move-in occurs on June 23 and move-out occurs on June 25
  • Student and Family/Guest Welcome will take place on June 23 following move-in
  • Students will receive a Carlow Summer College Orientation
  • Residency program will include social activities

CSC-101 Programming for Everyone I (3 Credits)

This course, built in collaboration with Google, provides a gentle, but thorough, introduction to programming using Python. You will learn the core concepts and techniques needed to create programs and perform basic data analysis. By the end of this course, you’ll be ready to pursue further study in computer science and unlock more advanced programming courses.

EC-315 STEAM Lab and Makerspace (3 Credits)*

Students will choose a STEAM project to research, develop, and implement into an appropriate setting (school, after-school program, museum). Students will utilize the design process and a variety of resources (educational technology, materials, tools, machines) in a Makerspace environment to safely and efficiently develop solutions to problems that require integration of concepts and skills from multiple disciplines. Seminar content includes cross-disciplinary content instruction and pedagogical strategies for working with a variety of learners. Learners will demonstrate competencies that include planning and organization; assessment of learning; reflection on teaching; interdisciplinary collaboration; and inquiry-based approaches to teaching and learning.

*All course fees for EC 315 have been provided by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. There is no fee to students for EC 315 only.

To be eligible, you must have a GPA of 3.00 or higher. High school transcripts may be requested. Accessibility accommodations are available. Residency program is required June 23-25.
