The Oxford English Dictionary defines colorism as “prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically amongst people of the same ethnic or racial group.” As we expand our understanding of white supremacy and propaganda with colonial origins, we must interrogate the ways our own communities have internalized harmful attitudes and behaviors. Join the SJI for a discussion on how colorist sentiments developed from anti-Black rhetoric and beliefs, manifesting in stereotyping and discrimination in communities of color across the globe.
