Dear Carlow University Faculty, Staff and Students,
The University has continued to monitor, assess, and manage the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to evolve. We remain committed to making decisions based on science and guidance from the CDC, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and Allegheny County Health Department.
Research to date has demonstrated that the currently authorized COVID-19 vaccines are an effective combatant against the virus. Widespread vaccination represents a critical step in mitigating the pandemic and the mutations of the virus.
Our COVID Task Force has continued to monitor the situation. The Task Force considered input from the Cabinet, the University Faculty Senate, Staff Council, and the Student Government Association leadership regarding the changing COVID landscape. As a result of that process, the decision has been made to require all employees and students to complete their COVID vaccination by January 24, 2022. We believe that this decision is in the best interest of our community and Carlow’s commitment to the Common Good.
Please review the details below. The vaccine exemptions that will be granted will be for those who submit in accordance with the medical and religious exemptions. Students may access exemption forms here. Employees should contact HROffice@carlow.edu to engage in the reasonable accommodation process.
WHAT: Carlow University’s COVID vaccination effective January 24, 2022.*
WHO: Applies to all employees, who are not fully remote, as well as any students, who are not fully remote.

*The University has been notified that Carlow faculty and students in experiential learning programs with many of our healthcare partners will be required to have a COVID-19 vaccination. Please consult your advisor or clinical supervisor for details if you feel this may pertain to you.
Mandatory Weekly Testing for Individuals with Medical and Religious Exemptions: For individuals who have been granted an exemption, it will be necessary to produce a weekly negative COVID test result not more than 72 hours old. It will be necessary to make your own arrangements for weekly testing and any payments required.
Students, faculty and staff must self-report their test results. Students should contact Health Services by calling 412-578-6474 or emailing hcs@carlow.edu. Faculty/Staff are asked to contact Human Resources by emailing HROffice@carlow.edu.
Vaccines: Widespread vaccination represents a critical step in stopping the pandemic. Research to date has demonstrated the currently authorized vaccines to be an effective combatant against the COVID-19 virus, and Carlow believes vaccination to be a demonstration of our commitment to the Common Good. Keep in mind that both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses approximately 21 to 28 days apart, while the J&J/Janssen vaccine is a single dose. Click here for additional FAQs.
