Students invited to Fall 2021 Job & Internship Fair, reminded to take COVID-19 precautions as indoor events increase

Dear Students,

Allegheny County community transmission rates saw a reduction in the last week yet remain high enough to keep the county in the high-risk category. Details on the “County View” may be found by clicking here. Campus rates remain low and manageable. Cooler weather and more frequent indoor activity require continued vigilance with using preventative measures. Please review important information for you to know this week.

ACTION REQUIRED: Student Testing Requirements

Per CDC guidelines, the University will be testing students who are unvaccinated or who have not indicated their vaccination status. This applies to all who have in-person classes or learning experiences. Groups of students will be randomly identified to test each week and students will receive an email communication regarding where and when testing is expected.

If you are vaccinated and have not already responded, please provide detail here so that we might remove you from this testing requirement. The form to submit your status can be found by clicking here. If you have trouble clicking the above link, enter the URL below into your web browser’s navigation bar: https://forms.office.com/r/muXR8ep4VX.

Symptomatic? Not sure what to do?

Students who are symptomatic should stay where they are and contact Health Services by calling 412-578-6474 or emailing hcs@carlow.edu. Please also contact your Primary Care Physician (PCP), along with faculty, supervisors, or other appropriate individuals. Because we have received many questions about what to do in such an instance, we are sharing additional guidance, which can be found by clicking here. Please do not come to campus, attend classes, or learning experiences until you are certain of your health status. Confidentially upload your COVID-19 test results to health services by clicking here.

We recommend you use the following CDC guidelines:

Sisters of Mercy Endorse Vaccination

Sr. Sheila Carney shared a communication sent to all Sisters of Mercy calling for full vaccination. The communication read in part, “Catherine McAuley, reflecting on her own health concerns, wrote in her letter to Sister Aloysius Scott (September 1841): “How happy it would make me if I knew you were doing all in your power to keep up your strength…” One demonstration today of”keeping up our strength” is assuring one another that we are all vaccinated and doing our best to assist in creating a safe and healthy environment for all with whom we daily interact.”

Help Needed? Submit a Care Report

With the beginning of each semester, students occasionally struggle with affordability, academic adjustments, and connecting to the community. If you become concerned about yourself or others, please submit a report and let the Care Team know about any needs, questions or concerns. We are active and will make contact with you, or those you refer, to help. You may also contact the Student Affairs office at 412-578-6293 or .

Stay healthy and enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Timothy P. Phillips, PhD
Vice President of Student Affairs & Dean of Students
