University Communication to Students
Dear Students,
News regarding the pandemic confirmed that COVID-19 cases have plateaued and may be on the verge of a slight rise. However, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was also granted emergency authorization for distribution, increasing the distribution supply. While there is cause for optimism, the CDC also called for continued vigilance. The following is important for you to know this week:
New This Week:
Travel and Testing
The State of Pennsylvania relaxed travel restrictions this week, removing the requirement to have a COVID-19 test within 72 hours of arrival in the State. However, the Allegheny County Health Department recommends continued caution when traveling, taking care to limit possibility of exposure. Consistent with CDC guidelines, students returning to campus after Spring Break will be tested on campus. Athletes in season and residential students will be required to sign-up and complete testing upon their return to campus. Testing is recommended for those returning to on-campus classes.
Commitment to the Common Good
The CDC continues to emphasize the necessity of wearing a face mask; social distancing of at least six feet; and good personal handwashing hygiene – even after receiving a vaccine.
Importance of a Daily Self-Check:
All students are required to create an online account and daily complete the COVID-19 Self-Checker Tool via Mediterranean Wellness, a web-based application. If you are not yet registered, visit our COVID-19 website page for complete instructions. You will receive daily self-checker prompts within 24 hours of completing your registration. Those attending on-ground classes will be asked to show a “Green” outcome screen.
Next Communication, Thursday, March 18
I will not do a communication next week since classes will not be in session due to Spring Break.
