University Communication to Students
Dear Students,
This week the Allegheny County Health Department officials reported on Wednesday that the first confirmed case of the coronavirus UK variant has occurred in the county. This information is important as the UK strain have been found to spread more easily. For your health and safety, it is important that you remain aware of the following:
Commitment to the Common Good
Our collective commitment to the common good remains critical. When on campus, all must wear masks, properly social distance, wash our hands regularly, and clean common surfaces before and after use. For safety, masks are to be form fitting, tight to the face, and allow talking without exposing your nose or chin. You may review the CDC revised information on their COVID-19 website. Mask effectiveness can be enhanced with two (2) masks and those not fitting the above criteria should be replaced.
Self-Screen Display Requested
Those coming to campus will be asked to display a GREEN self-screen confirmation in class, residence halls, and dining facilities. We ask that students be prepared to show the screen and that you respectfully comply with requests.
COVID-19 Testing for Students Returning Available
All students are expected to produce a negative test result within two weeks of their return to campus attendance. Campus testing options are available free of charge for surveillance and first-time return testing. Please note, this testing option is not available for symptomatic, re-testing, or travel/convenience testing. Please contact Health Services with questions at +1 (412) 578-6474.
Resources for Food Insecurity
Recognizing the impact of COVID-19 on college students, the Wolf administration “announced a temporary change in eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), expanding eligibility to certain college students who qualify based off their families’ income but normally would be ineligible for the program due to being a student.” For additional information or to determine eligibility go to this link.
Disabilities Services Accommodations
Students who test positive for the COVID-19 virus but remain able to participate in class remotely may qualify for accommodation. Students who must quarantine because of possible exposure, or because they are returning from travel, and may miss in-person classes, labs, or clinicals may also qualify for accommodations. Students who are experiencing medical or mental health-related concerns may also qualify for accommodations and are encouraged to contact the DSO to explore that qualification. Students can request accommodations through our accommodation service.
