Like Other Carlow Teams, New Teams Will Compete in Both NAIA and USCAA for Post-Season Berths
Pittsburgh, Pa. – Carlow University announced today that it will add a men’s soccer team and men’s and women’s golf teams to its athletics lineup. All three teams will begin play in the fall semester, 2016.
“Student athletes interested in playing soccer or golf at a collegiate level will have the opportunity to make history by being the first members of these three Carlow teams,” said George Sliman, director of Athletics at Carlow University. “We are recruiting right now for these teams, as well as for student athletes in all of the sports in which Carlow currently competes.”
Carlow fields teams in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, and women’s volleyball, softball, tennis, and soccer. All Carlow teams are affiliated with both the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). Carlow competes in the NAIA’s Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC), which will soon be renamed the “River States” conference, to accommodate teams from outside of the conference such as Carlow and its crosstown rival Point Park University.
The men’s soccer team will practice and play at Highmark Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, the city’s pro soccer team. Marcus Pollidore, head coach of the women’s team, will also coach the men’s team.
The men’s and women’s golf teams will compete in both fall and spring. Their practice course will be Schenley Park, and the home course is still being determined. Ryan Shank, who is an assistant coach on Carlow’s men’s basketball team, will coach both the men’s and women’s golf teams.
“Joining a brand new team creates a tremendous opportunity for high school student athletes because they will be able to compete for starting positions immediately,” said Sliman. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for a student athlete who is ready to take the next step both athletically and academically.”
