Pittsburgh Native Returns to City from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago
Pittsburgh, Pa. – Jeanne Hartig, who has worked in higher education marketing and communications for more than 20 years, has been named Vice President for Marketing and Communications at Carlow University effective January 11, 2016. She had been serving as Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Ill.
“The position of Vice President for Marketing and Communications is crucial in establishing and sustaining a differentiated leadership market position for Carlow – particularly as we move forward with the strategic objective to enhance our brand position,” said Carlow University President Suzanne K. Mellon, PhD. “Dr. Hartig is an accomplished marketing and communications professional with comprehensive higher education and branding experience. Her successful career of collaborating with admissions, advancement, and academic units will advance Carlow’s vision and priorities.”
While at Illinois Institute of Technology, Dr. Hartig helped achieve record undergraduate enrollment in the fall of 2012, 2013, and 2014. She also created the IIT Communications Group – a working collaboration of 60+ professionals in the university’s academic and administrative divisions with marketing/communications responsibilities in their job descriptions.
From 2006 to 2011, she was Vice President of Marketing and Communications at National-Louis University in Chicago, where she created the three-year “Get it at NLU” campaign, resulting in significantly increased inquiries from prospective students. She also directed efforts resulting in story placement in major media outlets, including The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, Crain’s Business, the Christian Science Monitor, and influential academic blogs.
Prior to her position at National-Louis University, Dr. Hartig served in executive leadership positions for the University of Toledo (as Executive Director and Special Assistant to the President for Marketing and Communications) and for the University of Central Florida (as Assistant Vice President of University Relations/Director of University Marketing). She served in similar roles at the Maryland Center for the Performing Arts in College Park, Md., and at The Sage Colleges in Troy and Albany, New York. She has also served as Chief Operating Officer at National Trade Publications in Latham, New York.
Dr. Hartig is a native of Pittsburgh and, from 1991 through 1994, she was Director of Marketing and Public Relations for The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. She received a PhD in Community Psychology from National-Louis University, an MBA in marketing and an MA in history, both from The Ohio State University, and a BA in history from Allegheny College.
Dr. Hartig has received honors and awards for her work from the University College and Designers Association, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the Publicity Club of Chicago, Women in Communications Annual Design Competition, and the Pittsburgh Advertising Council, to name just a few. She has also been invited to make presentations on marketing and communications and numerous national conferences.
