Carlow University and the Community College of Beaver County sign a joint admission agreement for nursing programs.

Monaca, PA –Nursing students who plan to earn a bachelor’s degree now have another pathway to ensure all earned degree credits can be transferred to a four-year university. An agreement between Community College of Beaver County and Carlow University was signed recently in order to ensure that students who earn CCBC’s Associate of Science Degree in Nursing can seamlessly transfer to Carlow University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Upon admission to CCBC’s associate degree in nursing program, students may now simultaneously be admitted into the RN to BSN program at Carlow University.
“The Joint Admission Agreement will allow CCBC students to pursue a pathway that ensures their completed associate degrees in nursing will be accepted by Carlow University’s corresponding program,” explained Dr. Shelly Moore, Dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health at CCBC.
Incoming freshmen, transfer students, and returning students are eligible to apply for joint admission.
All potential candidates must have a minimum 2.0 grade-point average and have passed the NCLEX exam. Students who fulfill these requirements are guaranteed admission into Carlow University’s RN to BSN program. For the 2016 CCBC RN graduates, the NCLEX-RN first-time pass-rate is currently 98 percent, allowing for many graduates the opportunity to pursue a BSN degree.
“Carlow University offers face-to-face, hybrid, and online course options so students can choose which method of learning is best for them and their schedule,” said Lynn E. George, PhD, RN, CNE, Dean of the College of Health and Wellness at Carlow University. “Carlow seeks to have all students enrolled in CCBC’s Associate of Science in Nursing program consider the opportunity to earn their BSN degree.”
This new opportunity for nurses comes at a time when The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Institute of Medicine (2010) Report on the Future of Nursing recommend that “the proportion of nurses with baccalaureate degrees be increased to 80 percent by 2020.” Additionally, the U.S. Department of Labor is projecting a need for an 18 percent increase in nurses in PA by 2022 and expects the RN workforce to grow from 2.71 million in 2012 to 3.24 million in 2022, an increase of 526,800 or 19 percent.
“Health care agencies are some of the top employers in our surrounding region. Increasing the number of nurses with baccalaureate degrees can be accomplished through this educational collaborative which allows for a seamless transition from the ADN degree at CCBC to the RN-BSN degree at Carlow,” said Dr. Moore.
Additionally, CCBC students who plan to earn a Master of Science in Nursing will be eligible to earn up to 12 graduate credits while in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s degree from Carlow University.
