Three western Pennsylvania high school students are winners in the inaugural Atkins Endowed Center for Ethics’ Essay Contest.

Three Winning High School Students Are from Butler, Belle Vernon, and Norwin
Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Atkins Endowed Center for Ethics at Carlow University has announced the winners of its essay contest that addressed the topic: Bleak New World – Ethics and the Dystopian Novel. The contest was open to high school juniors and seniors who could explore and question the moral values inherent in dystopian fiction.
The winners of the 2017 Atkins Endowed Center for Ethics’ High School Essay Contest, as well as their high school and the cash prize they received, are:
First Place – Megan McClymonds, Butler Area High School, $600.
Second Place – Jillian Kurta, Belle Vernon Area High School, $300.
Third Place – Melody Whittaker, Norwin High School, $100.
Formal presentation of the awards will take place during Carlow University’s 18th Annual Undergraduate Scholarship Day on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
“There were many fine essays submitted for this contest,” said William S. Schweers, JD, the inaugural executive director of the Atkins Center . “Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all of the entrants for their excellent efforts.”
