Carlow University Commencement Set for Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Soldiers and Sailors

Carlow University Commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 12:45 p.m. in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall.

Procession Begins at 12:45 p.m. at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland

Pittsburgh, Pa. – There will be plenty of “Pomp and Circumstance” during Carlow University’s Spring Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland.  The procession of graduates begins at 12:45 p.m.

More than 350 students will walk in the ceremony and receive their bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees from the university.

The Commencement address will be given by Father Gregory Boyle, a Jesuit priest, and the founder of Homeboy Industries, Inc., a Los Angeles-based organization, that seeks to employ and train gang members and provide an alternative to gang life.  Father Boyle has also written two books and numerous articles.  In addition to giving the Commencement address, Father Boyle will receive an honorary doctorate from Carlow.

Honorary doctorates will also be awarded to Colonel Jeannette South-Paul, MD, the Andrew W. Mathieson Professor and Chair of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh, and Michele Fabrizi, a Carlow alumna as well as President and CEO of Marc USA, one of the largest independent advertising agencies in the U.S.

In keeping with Carlow tradition and with respect to the university’s Catholic heritage, the day will begin with a Baccalaureate Mass, celebrated by the Most Reverend William J. Watersheid, Auxiliary Bishop of the Pittsburgh, and the concelebrant will the Reverend Adam M. Verona, Carlow University chaplain. Father Greg Boyle will deliver the homily.  The Baccalaureate Mass begins at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Cathedral, located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Craig Street in Oakland.
