Will Be the14th Team at Carlow; The Seventh Team Added Since2014

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Carlow University announced the addition of Men’s Volleyball for the 2020-21 school year today.

The Carlow Celtics’ team will participate under the NationalAssociation of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in the River States Conference, and will play a full season beginning in the 2020-21school year.  The Celtics will play all home games in the St.Joseph Athletic & Fitness Center gymnasium, the current on-campus home of the women’s volleyball team.

Recruitment for the team begins immediately, and athletic scholarships are available for incoming recruits to make history as the inaugural team.  This will be the 14th team at Carlow and the seventh athletics team added since 2014.

“Pennsylvania, and in particular Western Pa., has a long history of competitive boys’ volleyball and club programs,” Director ofAthletics George Sliman said. “We are hopeful that by offering this sport option, many of these students will consider a Carloweducation while continuing their volleyball careers and then possibly staying in the Pittsburgh area after graduation.”

Men’s Volleyball became an official NAIA national championship sport in April 2018. It is the association’s26th and most recent national championship sport. Over 40 NAIA institutions across the nation sponsor a varsity men’s volleyball program, including Midway (Ky.) University, who like Carlow, is a member of the River States Conference.

“The men’s team will complement our women’s team and create an opportunity for our campus to be energized by another ‘on campus’ sport,” Sliman added.

Interested recruits are asked to complete the RecruitMe form online, and any questions about the program can be directed to Sliman at gssliman@carlow.edu.

The Celtics look forward to naming a men’s volleyball head coach in the coming weeks.
