Carlow University’s MSW program has received its initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for the Council on Social Work Education.

Started in Fall of 2018, Carlow’s MSW Program Offers In-Person or Hybrid Classes
Pittsburgh, Pa. – Carlow University’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program has been granted initial accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation (COA) for the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
The COA, which is the arm of the CSWE that is responsible for formulating accreditation standards and policies as well as determining the criteria and process for evaluating these standards, is also the body that confers accreditation status on university’s social work programs.
“Initial Accreditation means that we are a new MSW program and that we have received Accreditation for the first time,” said Sheila Roth, PhD, LCSW, EMT-B, chair and professor of social work at Carlow. “We will need to renew our accreditation status on a pre-determined rotation from here on out. Usually accreditation is given for four years for a newly accredited program and up to every eight years after that.”
Carlow University’s MSW program, which began accepting students in the fall of 2018, is a trauma-focused program and is offered full or part-time and in either in-person or hybrid (combination of online and in-person classes) modalities.
“Trauma-focused means Carlow’s program is experiential, practice-oriented, and self-reflective in a way that transforms students,” said Roth. “Because of this focus, the question that students are taught to ask is not ‘what’s wrong with you?’ but ‘what happened to you?’”
In addition, Carlow’s MSW program is one of the few programs in the region that can be taken on a low-residency or part-time basis, which can be ideal for adult and non-traditional students with busy lives and schedules.
