25 Nursing Students Will Receive Their Honor Cords and Certificates in Parking Lot B

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The pandemic has caused a disruption in a number of activities over the past few months but the Carlow University chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society for undergraduate and graduate nursing students will move forward with a “drive-by” induction into the society on Friday, October 9, at 4:30 p.m. in Carlow’s Parking Lot B, located off of Terrace Street.

“Some current members of the honor society will be present with a table that contains the book inductees sign and the honor cords that they receive,” said Anthony Good, DNP, assistant professor of nursing in Carlow’s College of Health and Wellness.  “If the inductees want their families to be present, then they can be there, but only the student may get out of the car to sign the book and receive their honor cord.  We have determined clean pens/dirty pens and will follow all university and CDC guidelines surrounding the novel coronavirus.”

Only students that have been invited to join are able to be present.  Students are ranked in the top of the junior class and top of the class for second-degree nursing.  Graduate students who hold a bachelor-of-science in nursing may also be inducted.

This ceremony normally takes place indoors and during the Spring semester, but Carlow University canceled its spring induction as a result of the novel coronavirus.

Editor’s Note:  The news media is welcome to cover the induction ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9.  The ceremony is not expected to take longer than 30 minutes to an hour to complete, but it should provide an opportunity to see students adapting to pandemic restrictions but still celebrating accomplishments.
