Carlow Partners with the Diocese of Pittsburgh to Award Students as Much as $20,000

.Carlow University is rewarding parents who send their children to schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh with a Catholic Education Grant that will total as much as $20,000 for each qualified student.

“Carlow University, along with the Diocese of Pittsburgh, wishes to recognize and reward the commitment of parents who chose to send their children to Catholic elementary and secondary schools,” said Suzanne K. Mellon, PhD, president of Carlow University, at a news conference on Friday, November 20, 2015. “We are excited to support the Diocese of Pittsburgh with these new university grants because they will help students to continue their Catholic education for four more years.”

Mellon made the announcement along with the Most Reverend David A. Zubik, Bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, who praised the program, saying, “My response as a parent would be ‘Thank God, somebody is helping us to fulfill the dream that we have for our sons and our daughters. That we can have that kind of an outreach and that kind of an initiative here says a great deal about the strong faith perspective in southwestern Pennsylvania.”

The amount of the awards depends on the length of time graduating seniors have attended Catholic schools within the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Students who have attended Catholic schools from grades 1-12 are eligible to earn a $5,000 grant annually for four years for a total of $20,000. Students who have attended a diocesan high school for grades 9-12, and have graduated, will receive a $2,500 annual award for four years for a total of $10,000.
