Incoming Carlow Celtics basketball player to continue family legacy

PITTSBURGH — Tyler Roscoe will be following in the sneakers of his four basketball-playing sisters. Not literally, of course, since Tyler, who at 6 feet 3 inches is taller than his sisters, will need much larger shoes.

The senior shooting guard from Matthews High School in Vienna, Ohio, will be playing his collegiate basketball at Carlow University in the Fall of 2020, the same college where sisters Rachel, Melanie, Lauren and Carly all played basketball and graduated.

“Growing up watching Carlow basketball was a part of my life,” he said. “Because of this, the university was always in the back of my mind.”

He said that the decision-making process was difficult, but he narrowed the possibilities down to a few final choices. That’s when his sisters began to voice their opinions.

“The pressure was definitely on,” he said with a laugh. “When I told my sisters that Carlow was one of my options, they all pushed for Carlow and retold all their great experiences. The final decision was ultimately mine, and I am confident with my choice.”

Carlow’s men’s team has only been in existence for six years, so Tyler knows he is joining a team that is still trying to create its own tradition. He credits head coach Tim Keefer and assistant coach Dave Gordon with helping him make the decision, and he says he’s ready for the challenge.

“I am very excited to be a part of a relatively new program,” he said. “I believe I have a lot to offer to the team in many different areas, and I am thankful Carlow has offered me the opportunity to prove myself. I believe I can be a part of something special and look to help Carlow return to winning ways.”

Although all four of his sisters graduated from Carlow’s nursing program, he is not following them into nursing. He plans to major in business management.

“At this time my goal is to be my very best in the classroom and on the court,” he said. “I look forward to the many opportunities Carlow University will bring me.

“I look forward to the new teachers, coaches and friends I will meet along the way. I have made a commitment to Carlow and to myself to work and study hard, and to continue the Roscoe legacy.”
