DUBOIS, Pa. --- Carlow University softball ended its season 20-22 overall after a tough 2-0 loss to No. 5 seed Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in the USCAA Small College World Series Wednesday.

The Pomeroys (21-10) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. The Celtics got out of a bases-loaded jam by turning a 5-2-3 double play, but a single up the middle scored a run in the next at-bat.

The defensive duel lasted the entire game, with the SMWC pitcher tossing a one-hitter against the Celtics.

The Pomeroys added the second run in the bottom of the sixth. A single up the middle and a stolen base put a runner in scoring position with only one out. The next-at bat was a double to left center to bring her home.

Sophomore Alysa Fairman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) took the loss on the mound, allowing two runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

SMWC moves on to the semifinals to face No. 10 seed Penn State Brandywine in an elimination game.
