An introduction to a small part of the complex field of constitutional law and looks at the practice of legal politics and political law, the United States Constitution and how the Constitution plays out in our national life. This course builds on the development of the first 10 amendments, with emphasis on the First Amendment freedoms of speech, expression, association, and the clauses with respect to religious freedom. The role of the Supreme Court is examined, as are the roles of the justices as interpreters of American law and society. 3 credits
