This course focuses on the development of America's institutions: Congress, the presidency, and the courts. The study of American political development is concerned with the nature of political change over time, the path by which we reached our present political state, broad patterns in American politics, and the exceptional nature of American politics and political history compared to that of other capitalist democracies. A variety of questions relating to periods of American political and constitutional history or political development are pursued. 3 credits FULFILLS SKILLS INTEGRATION REQUIREMENT.
