Statement on Carlow Culture

  • Statement on Carlow Culture - Ceramic and glass mosaic artwork by Laura Jean McLaughlin

The three significant elements of Carlow’s culture – Catholic, women-centered, learning-centered – are intertwined and inseparable. Not one thrives without the other – they combine to create a culture of caring. They are reflected in the overlapping themes of the core curriculum – reflecting on learning, valuing and respecting self and others, and expanding world view – as well as in the curriculum’s emphasis on the development of skills, knowledge and values. However, these elements of Carlow’s culture extend beyond a core curriculum and the classroom to affect the daily life and fundamental assumptions of all of the persons that comprise Carlow University.
