This research guide is designed to help the student through the research process by pointing out the reference tools that will be of most use for the study of cross cultural perspectives in child rearing. It will guide the student to some of the most appropriate resources here at Grace Library.
To search for books and videos on child rearing practices in other countries in Grace Library go to the library's web page and click on the link for Grace Library's Online Catalog. Once the online catalog window has opened, enter in one of the subject headings listed below into the Quick Search box, select subject from the drop down menu and click on the search button. This is only a partial list of the most likely headings. Consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings for others.

These headings may be topically and/or geographically subdivided, as in the following examples:
Child rearing – cross cultural studies, Family – Caribbean Area, Women – India – social conditions
If you do not find much using these more exact headings, it may be necessary to broaden your search. Try using the name of the country or ethnic group you are interested in and look for appropriate subdivisions, some of which are shown in the examples below:
China – social life and customs, Japan – Social conditions, Inuit – Social life and customs

This database includes country studies including cultural information, statistics and women's studies information. Search this database by country name and then view information on the different aspects of the country, such as the society and culture. Access to Global Road Warrior.
Located on the “pink” PC on the Second Level of Grace Library, this encyclopedia is very useful for finding information about a culture. Search this database by the name of the particular cultural group within a country (“Fulani”) rather than a country name. The articles also give, for each cultural group, information on history and culture, settlements, the economy, kinship, marriage and family, sociopolitical organization, and religion and expressive culture.
