Coach Schmitt joined Carlow’s staff in August 2014 as an assistant and was promoted to head coach in June 2015. Schmitt brings a wealth of coaching knowledge to Carlow, as well as personal running experience.

Schmitt served as the head cross country coach at Laurel High School from 2008-2013. His time at Laurel High School was marked by numerous successes including: Overall Varsity Dual Meet Boys and Girls combined Record - 70 wins, 70.7 winning percentage; two-time Section 1 AA Champions, and two-time WPIAL (District 7) A Champions. He coached 29 PIAA state qualifiers, including four medalists and two individual WPIAL champions and 14 WPIAL medalists.

Schmitt, who has been a runner since high school and a member of the BROOKS ID Program since 2009, was a two-year letter winner in track in field at Youngstown State University. His running accomplishments include being a member of the 2003 Indoor Horizon League Conference Championship team, a two-time State Games of America (SGA) National Champion, a four-time USA 15K National Qualifier, and a USA 25k National Qualifier for the seeded race.
