Dr. McMahon is the Associate Dean of Curriculum-Centered Strategic Planning for Carlow University’s School of Education. As professor of teacher education and director of Carlow’s Secondary Certification Program, Dr. McMahon also teaches in both the graduate and undergraduate education programs. Her areas of expertise include English education, composition, interpretive research, narrative inquiry, reflective portfolios, curriculum, reading and writing in the secondary disciplines, and qualitative dissertation research. Dr. McMahon began her teaching career as a high school English teacher. She holds a Bachelor’s in Secondary English Education from the Pennsylvania State University, a Master’s of English from the University of Pittsburgh, and PhD in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. She has conducted workshops on curriculum and pedagogy and on content area literacy, has published nationally and internationally on the subject of arts-based educational research, and frequently presents her work at conferences.
