Celtics drop 3 matches at Wyndham Garden Classic

The Carlow volleyball team dropped three matches at the Wyndham Garden Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8.

The Celtics lost to fellow NAIA opponents Salem University, 0-3 (17-25, 20-25, 25-27) and Montreat College, 0-3 (20-25, 19-25, 15-25), and then NCAA Division II host West Virginia State University, 1-3 (19-25, 25-18, 21-25, 12-25).

Against Salem, Michaela Koran (SR/North Olmsted, Ohio) had 10 kills, eight assists and nine digs. Jenna Albert (FR/Monongahela, Pa.) had 13 assists and 11 digs. Mariah Lomire (FR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 12 digs and four serve receptions. Cache Street (SO/Wilmerding, Pa.) had three blocks.

Against Montreat, Koran had 10 kills, 11 assists and nine digs. Albert had 18 assists and Lomire had 17 digs.

Against the Yellow Jackets, Exotica Hall (FR/Yokosuka, Japan) had 10 kills, 10 digs and five serve receptions. Street had 10 kills and two blocks. Koran had five aces, seven kills, seven digs and 1.5 blocks. Albert had 16 assists, eight digs and four aces. Lomire added 15 digs.

In each match, Carlow’s opponent was more efficient offensively. The Tigers’ attack percentage was 59, compared to the Celtics’ 47. The Cavaliers’ was 60 percent to the Celtics’ 46. The Yellow Jackets converted 55% of their attacks to Carlow’s 44.

The Celtics look to rebound Tuesday, at Penn State Beaver.
