Carlow University invites applications for the position of Instructor or Assistant Professor. Faculty are expected to comply with the roles as outlined in the Carlow University and College of Health and Wellness (CHW) Faculty Handbooks. In addition, all faculty within the Department of Nursing are expected to provide the Department of Nursing with the following:

Qualifications: 

  • Maintain an active, valid, current, unrestricted Pennsylvania RN License, updated bi-annually;
  • Electronic copy of Curriculum Vita, updated annually;
  • A minimum of a master's degree in nursing or the equivalent thereof;
  • Faculty preferred  qualifications include a doctorate in nursing or related field, teaching experience, experience in instructional technologies, program administration, and an active or developing research agenda.
  • Qualified through academic preparation to teach the subject assigned and meet the standards for faculty appointment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the teaching of students and creative teaching experience in an
  • Academic institution.
  • Electronic copies of current course syllabi submitted to appropriate Program Director one month prior to semester start.
  • Attend regularly schedules CHW Faculty Organization and Program Committee meetings.

All College of Health and Wellness Full-time Faculty responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting students in the application of knowledge to practice, facilitating student autonomy in their specific healthcare role, and promoting self-confidence that leads to professional competency.  Insuring students have access to learning experiences essential to their development as practitioners.
  • Representing the educational and professional values of Carlow University College of Health and Wellness to students, preceptors, and members of health care practice communities.
  • Mentoring and serving as a role model for students.
  • Implementing academic and professional standards set forth in the College of Health and Wellness Student Handbooks.
  • Remaining current in the professional and technical knowledge. This can be achieved through any or all of the following: attendance or presentations at professional conferences; review of professional publications, establishment of personal networks; participating in professional societies; publications in professional journals, and/or maintaining clinical practice.

 In addition to the above standards, Clinical Faculty responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Establish ongoing and regular contact with students via e-mail, telephone or in person visits to discuss clinical progress.
  • Assist students in completion of clinical objectives.
  • Serve as liaison between university and representatives at the clinical facilities.
  • Ensure that students are completing clinical hours based on guidelines set forth in specific courses.
  • Work with the students and representatives at the clinical facilities to identify and discuss the learner's needs in order to meet the course objectives.
  • Use appropriate teaching methods to help the students facilitate the clinical experiences so that students meet learning objectives and have confidence to implement newly learned skills;
  • Support students in refinement of interpersonal skills that promote effective communication with patients, peers, and representatives of the University and clinical facilities;
  • Monitor use of accepted guidelines and standards of care;
  • Communicate with staff and/or preceptor regularly to monitor students' progress in course;
  • Provide students with feedback utilizing the appropriate Clinical Evaluation Tools.
  • Advise students in relation to clinical placement for future semester, as it pertains specific courses.
  • In addition to the above standards Specific to MSN/Family (individual across lifespan) Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program Clinical Faculty include, but are not limited.
  • Evaluate whether the learner's objectives have been achieved through direct observation and preceptor feedback.
  • Review required SOAP and History & Physical notes posted within the Typhon System, and provide timely, constructive feedback to the students.
  • Conduct an onsite evaluation to assess students' clinical skills and progress toward role assimilation;
  • Communicate with preceptor to discuss student's performance and share any recommendations or concerns from preceptor.
  • Maintain professional standards as a representative of Carlow University and the FNP Program;
  • By the final clinical week (one week prior to the end of term) - ascertain the FNP students have completed all required clinical course components and uploaded them into the Typhon System.  Such documentation includes:
    • Accurate time log of clinical hours completed signed by student's clinical preceptor;
    • All required written assignments, including SOAP and H&P notes, indicating if student received a passing or failing grade for each assignment in the Typhon tracking system; Preceptor evaluation of student, Student evaluation of preceptor; Clinical faculty evaluation of the student;
    • Submit the Clinical Faculty Clinical Grading checklist to the FNP Clinical Coordinator that includes a pass/fail grade for the student.
    • Follow University's Human Resources guidelines  
Requirements:
  1. A copy of an active, valid, current, unrestricted Pennsylvania Respiratory Care License, updated bi-annually;
  2. Electronic copy of Curriculum Vita, updated annually;
  3. A minimum of a master's degree in respiratory care or the equivalent thereof;
  4. Faculty preferred  teaching experience, experience in instructional technologies, program administration, and an active or developing research agenda.
  5. Qualified through academic preparation to teach the subject assigned and meet the standards for faculty appointment.
  6. Demonstrate proficiency in the teaching of students and creative teaching experience in an Academic institution.
  7. Electronic copies of current course syllabi submitted to appropriate Program Director one month prior to semester start.
  8. Attend regularly scheduled CHW Faculty Organization and Program Committee meetings.
  9. Clearances-Upon hire and updated every three years or more often as required by affiliating facilities, including: FBI (Act 73) - Fingerprint Clearance, Act 153 (Child Abuse-Act 33, Criminal Background Check -Act 34)
  10. Have clinical practice experience at the advanced practice nursing level of at least two years.
  11. Maintain clinical practice within the advanced practice nurse role and specialty of 200 hours per year.
  12. Appropriate national certification (N. O. N. P. F. Guidelines Checklist IV B. 3 a.)
