Carlow attack falters against Rio Grande

The Carlow volleyball team dropped a River States Conference match, 3-0, on the road to University of Rio Grande on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

The RedStorm earned a 25-19, 25-19, 26-24 victory, coming from behind in the third set. Carlow had just defeated Rio Grande, 3-2, on Saturday, Oct. 7, at home.

Neither team hit effectively, as Rio Grande posted a .086 percentage and Carlow posted a .099 percentage. The errors proved more costly to Carlow, though. Rio Grande did defend the net well, earning 14 block assists for a total of seven blocks in the match for their first RSC win.

Aleah Pelphrey led the RedStorm with 10 kills, Carly Shriver posted 12 assists and Katie Hemsley added 21 digs.

For Carlow, Michaela Koran (JR/North Olmsted, Ohio) had 24 assists and 13 digs, Emma Penrod (FR/North East, Pa.) had nine kills and Mia Marmion (SR/Upper St. Clair, Pa.) added 13 digs.

The Celtics (10-13/3-6/6-3) next play at Cincinnati Christian on Saturday, Oct. 14.
