Carlow leads River States Conference in percentage of NAIA Scholar Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The 2015-16 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar Teams were released Friday, July 15, by the NAIA national office. 

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

Seven of eight Carlow University teams earned this distinction. Carlow led the River States Conference (RSC) with the highest percentage of its teams making the list.

The Celtics were led by the softball team, with a 3.45 team GPA.  Other Carlow teams honored were women’s soccer (3.40), women’s basketball (3.39), volleyball (3.36), men’s cross country (3.29), women’s cross country (3.22) and women’s tennis (3.06).

In all, there were 1,590 NAIA Scholar Teams named across the country. The Missouri Baptist women's golf team led the nation with a 3.95 GPA.Point Park University led the RSC in total number of NAIA Scholar Teams, with nine.
