Manager of Information Analytics


Carlow University invites applications for the position of Manager of Information Analytics.  This position has responsibility for reporting and analysis support functions of the various databases of the software applications and services within the University's Application EcoSystem.  As the lead person responsible for data and reporting services, this position requires a solid combination of business analysis and technical skills.

The incumbent will be responsible for support and professional development of University report writers both within the IT Division and in other functional departments.  This requires a strong understanding of business processes along with the ability to analyze and present data to meet the decision need.  While leading the reporting function across the enterprise, this position will have strong ties with the Institutional Research function in supporting databases and data warehouses.

Essential Functions:

Lead the University's reporting services by:

  • Developing accurate and clear reports, charts, and graphs that conform to departmental and institutional guidelines as well as best practices
  • Managing data sets and warehouses
  • Establishing data integrity protocols
  • Serving on University committees where data integrity oversight is necessary
  • Creating and following processes to ensure the highest possible level of accuracy
  • Ensuring the confidentiality of data

Required Experience:

Minimum of four years in applications reporting, including:

  • Four years technical knowledge and experience in developing business operational reports
  • Three years of experience in supporting data warehouse and large-scale databases
  • Two years managing data in non-relational formats.
  • One year in an analytical role in development of reports in anticipation of business need

Preferred Experience:

Experience with reporting and data analysis from Ellucian/Datatel Colleague or other higher-ed specific ERP/SIS


  • Required: Bachelor's degree, in Computer Science, Information Science, or field in which strong data analysis skills are acquired; Master's degree is a plus.
  •  Required: experience with enterprise reporting software, such as SAP's Business Objects, especially from a Universe-creation and management. Experience with Crystal Reports, Cognos and/or Entrinsik Informer also preferred.
  •  Required: Experience analyzing large data sets and developing clear, concise reports
  •  Required: Experience supporting others in training and development of functional reports and information assimilation
  •  Required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  •  Required: Ability to relate and communicate in a positive way to the many constituencies of the University.
  •  Required: Knowledge of relational database and data warehousing concepts
  •  Preferred: knowledge of unidata data structures

Performance Metrics, per fiscal year

  1. Implementation of one creative technological tool or service that aligns with the core strategic goals of the University.
  2. Key engagement in development of one process or protocol to improve business efficiency

Work schedule

While this position is generally a Monday-Friday full-time responsibility at the Oakland campus, flexibility options exist that would enable an optimal and productive environment which meets the needs of both the incumbent and Carlow University.  Night/weekend work will be required during critical periods such as system upgrades and application outage resolution.
